Medusa

Oil on Canvas . Original Artwork . 610mm x 762mm . 24” x 30”

Medusa, the fallen beauty who, through her alliance with Poseidon, was cursed with snakes for hair. Here, she is depicted in as human an image as possible, with the normality of daily life represented in the cup of coffee. Poseidon, a spectre of the past looms in the background. The flowers signify her enduring beauty despite the grotesque headful of snakes …..flowers continue to bloom from a snake’s mouth.
Over centuries, the image of Medusa has been likened to that of a monster; in a fresh and interesting perspective here, she is portrayed in human semblance.
